Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, expressed regret over the severe difficulties facing Sudan.
As a founding member of the African Union, Sudan holds a significant place in our collective efforts to address the ongoing crisis, he stated.
Following the outbreak of conflict on April 15, 2023, the AU swiftly convened an emergency session on April 16, 2023, to tackle the situation.
He reiterated that the African Union will persist in its efforts to engage all Sudanese stakeholders, including civilians and political entities, aiming for an inclusive resolution and a comprehensive political dialogue that restores constitutional democracy in Sudan.
The conflict that began in Sudan in April 2023 has led to the most extensive displacement crisis of the year, displacing 6.1 million people within the nation and forcing 1.5 million to seek refuge abroad.
