The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is scheduled to depart for New York on Friday to preside over a session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

This historic move comes as Somalia holds the rotating presidency of the Council for the month of January.
The four-day working visit marks a significant milestone, as President Mohamud becomes the first Somali head of state to chair a UNSC session.

He is accompanied by a lean delegation of eight officials. While in New York, the President is expected to hold high-level bilateral meetings with world leaders and top UN officials to discuss regional security and international cooperation.

Regarding his previously scheduled itinerary, the President has not yet departed for Addis Ababa, despite expectations earlier today. We will provide further updates as more information regarding the status of his Ethiopia visit becomes available.
