Mogadishu—Haybad Qaran (HQ) coalition has endorsed Mr. Abdi Farah Shirdoon (Saacid) as the Presidential Candidate of the Haybad Qaran (HQ) Union for the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Somalia in the forthcoming elections.

The landmark endorsement was announced late Thursday night in Mogadishu at the conclusion of the Haybad Qaran (HQ) Union’s National Convention, a gathering that brought together senior political leaders, founding members, elders, and delegates from across the country.

Mr. Shirdoon, a former Prime Minister and seasoned statesman, emerged as the consensus choice after months of intense consultations and deliberations focused on Somalia’s political future, national unity, and the path toward stable governance.

Delegates described the decision as a decisive step aimed at restoring confidence in leadership at a time when the country faces complex political, security, and humanitarian challenges.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Shirdoon pledged to uphold the constitution, defend Somalia’s sovereignty, and steer the nation toward inclusive, mutually agreed elections that would bring an end to the prolonged transitional period. He emphasized reconciliation, institutional reform, and national cohesion as central pillars of his campaign vision.

The convention also adopted the constitution and political program of the Haybad Qaran (HQ) Union, positioning the coalition as a formal political force ahead of the upcoming electoral process. Party leaders framed the endorsement as part of a broader strategy to unify political stakeholders and present a credible alternative rooted in constitutional order and national dignity.

This endorsement could reshape the emerging electoral landscape, particularly as alliances continue to form amid growing public demand for stability, accountability, and effective governance.

As Somalia edges closer to a pivotal election cycle, the Haybad Qaran (HQ) coalition’s move signals the beginning of an intensified political contest—one that may define the country’s direction for years to come.
